1. Medical Terminology Course (45 Hours)

Successful coding begins with a firm grasp of medical terminology.  Allied’s Medical Terminology course provides you with an introduction and overview of medical language, emphasizing basic medical word parts and terminology. You will be introduced to the body systems through vivid and descriptive images that are labeled for easy reference.  Explanations of diseases and conditions will be presented along with diagnostic tests and procedures.

2. Anatomy and Physiology Course (75 Hours)

This comprehensive, state-of-the-art A&P course provides a solid foundation of knowledge that prepares you for the upcoming health care changes, such as electronic health records and ICD-10 code conversion. You will acquire an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and laboratory medicine. Learn how to identify, pronounce, spell, locate, and understand anatomical terminology in order to describe the structure and function of the body, the organ systems, and the relations of one part to another.  The nature of disease processes including signs, symptoms, and etiology will be presented in detail for each organ system. Interventional treatment modalities have been linked accordingly in addition to clinical applications, research issues and trends, and related issues about health and well-being.

3. Medical Coding Course (210 Hours)

Start your future off right with on-the-job coding knowledge.  An Allied Medical Coding education provides you with a solid foundation that covers the coding rules for the CPT®, and Level II HCPCS coding systems and then applying these rules to code patient medical services.

Emphasis will be placed on coding for physician services in multiple settings, such as the physician’s office, hospital, emergency room, and operating room, utilizing diagnosis codes.

Allied’s Medical Coding Training will prepare you to apply the science knowledge base that was acquired in Allied’s Medical Terminology course to the process of code selection. Learn how to use the current ICD-10-CM, CPT®, and HCPCS coding manuals through hundreds of practical exercises and case studies. Additionally, you will learn how to use the ICD-10-CM through various applications and the history of ICD-10 coding.  

4. Medical Coding Exam Prep
After you complete your medical program, take the next step - prepare for your certification exam. Our online prep will prepare you to pass the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification exam and become a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice (CPC-A).

5. Medical Coding Externship
The externship will provides the opportunity to practice newly developed skills under direct supervision in an actual work environment. Additionally, you’ll review the qualities needed to secure employment as a medical coder. This includes developing a targeted résumé, cover letter and follow-up/thank-you note for potential employers, as well as learning how to negotiate employment as a medical coder.
